El mayantú y otros escritos; mito y folclore de la Amazonía peruana

Abstract

Taller que anima a los estudiantes a expresar su propia cultura y sus experiencias por medio del relato de sus historias en varios estilos literarios. Durante el semestre académico, los jóvenes pasaron muchos sábados escribiendo y revisando las obras bilingües en el aula, en plazas y parques y aún en los hogares de las instructoras. Lo que resultó del proyecto fue una colección de relatos y poemas que vistosamente retratan la cultura, los mitos y las leyendas de la deslumbrante y misteriosa región amazónica. Al inicio del taller, consultamos a los estudiantes qué era lo que esperaban lograr al escribir sus cuentos. Ellos expresaron su gran deseo de compartir su cultura con el mundo fuera de la Amazonia. La realización de este libro es su oportunidad para hacer precisamente eso. Además de ello, nosotras preparamos cuidadosamente actividades de aprendizaje con el objetivo de ayudar a los profesores de inglés de la región a utilizar estos relatos y poemas en sus clases para otorgar a sus estudiantes la oportunidad de aprender inglés mediante el entendimiento de otras culturas y la valoración de sus orígenes y visión del mundo. Nosotras esperamos que mientras usted lo lea, permita que la magia y el misterio de la Amazonia lo rodee y envuelva, abriendo su mente y corazón a los relatos que estos jóvenes autores están emocionados por compartir.

Throughout the school year, the young authors spent countless Saturdays writing and revising the bilingual works in the classroom, outside in parks, and even in the instructors' homes. What emerged from the project was a collection of stories and poems that vividly portray the culture, myths, and legends of the stunning and mysterious Amazon region. At the beginning of the workshop, we asked students what they hoped to achieve by writing their stories. They expressed the overwhelming desire to share their culture with the world outside of the Amazon region. The realization of this book is their opportunity to do just that. Tn addition to this, we carefully prepared learning activities to support language teachers in the region in their use of these poems and stories in their classes. Thus, giving their learners the chance to learn English through cross cultural understanding and value their origins and own vision of the world. We hope, as you read this book, you allow the magic and mystery of the Amazon to surround and envelop you, opening your mind and heart to the tales these young writers are eager to share.
