Abstract
The investigation was carried out in the forestry concession for timber purposes with contract Nº16-LOR-MAY-CON-MAD-2017-021 in the Mazan river basin, province of Maynas, Loreto. The objective of the study was to determine the structure and carbon stock in the aerial biomass of the low terrace and low hill forest of this forest concession. The stratified systematic design was used with rectangular sample units 500 m long x 10 m wide. 54 sampling units distributed in 40,647 ha were evaluated. In the low terrace forest 44 species are reported, grouped into 40 genera 20 botanical families. The low hill forest reports 82 species, grouped into 68 genera and 27 botanical families. In the low terrace forest of the Mazan river basin, nine (09) were the most representative species, highlighting Cumala (58.7%). In the low hill forest twelve (12) were the most important species, also highlighting Cumala (48.7%). In the low terrace forest a total aerial biomass of 20.94 tons is reported, where Virola sp. provides the greatest amount of biomass of 3.38 t The low hill forest contains a total aerial biomass of 134.53 tons, where Virola sp. provides the greatest amount of biomass of 19.93 t The carbon stock in the low terrace forest is 10.47 tC and in the low hill forest 67.27 tC.
