Abstract

The objective was to determine the relationship between knowledge of leptospirosis prevention and the sanitary condition of housing among residents of the Los Agustinos Human Settlement, Iquitos 2025. The approach was quantitative, with a non-experimental, descriptive, correlational, and cross sectional design. The population consisted of 153 heads of household from the Los Agustinos Human Settlement, and the sample included 110 residents selected through simple random probabilistic sampling. The technique used was a survey, employing as instruments a questionnaire on knowledge of leptospirosis prevention and a checklist of housing sanitary conditions. For the descriptive analysis, absolute and relative frequencies were calculated, while for the inferential analysis, Chi-square (X²) and Kendall’s Tau-b correlation tests were applied, with a significance level of p ≤ 0.05, using the SPSS version 27.0 statistical package. The results showed that, regarding the level of knowledge about leptospirosis prevention measures, 68.2% had a regular level, 26.4% a good level, and 5.5% a deficient level; regarding the sanitary condition of housing, 70.9% were classified as unsanitary and 29.1% as sanitary. In conclusion, a weak positive correlation was found between knowledge of leptospirosis prevention and the sanitary condition of housing (Kendall’s Tau-b = 0.233), and this relationship was statistically significant (p = 0.013).
