Abstract

This research was conducted in a low-terrace forest in the Nuevo Bajo Ucayali native community, with the aim of determining horizontal structure and diversity. A total of 465 trees grouped into 22 species and 12 families were identified. Myristicaceae accounts for 149 trees (32.0%), followed by Fabaceae, 129 trees (25.6%). The forest presents an inverted "j" diametric distribution, with the largest number found in the smaller diameter classes. The most important species according to the IVI were Virola sebifera (59.44%), Ocotea floribunda (31.65%), Carapa guianensis (23.45%), Virola albidiflora (16.82%), and Otoba parvifolia (16.42%). The forest presents a medium diversity. Forest inventories must be conducted in various areas with sufficient detail to ensure results with the minimum margin of sampling error. Enrichment with the commercial species Virola sebifera must be implemented due to its high importance index, with the goal of increasing the economic benefits of low-terrace forests.
