Conocimientos y actitudes sobre herpes genital en estudiantes del Colegio 60946 Mariscal Oscar R Benavides Iquitos 2024

Abstract

The objective was to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes about genital herpes among 4th and 5th year secondary school students at the Mariscal Oscar R. Benavides School (No. 60946) in Iquitos. A quantitative, cross-sectional, correlational, and non-experimental study was conducted with a sample of 213 students selected through probabilistic sampling. Validated questionnaires and scales for knowledge and attitudes were used. The results revealed that the largest proportion of students (33.8%) presented a moderate level of knowledge. 58.2% had a low level of knowledge, 33.8% had a medium level, and only 8.0% reached a high level of knowledge. In total, 92% of the students had a low to medium understanding of genital herpes. Regarding attitudes, the majority (58.2%) expressed indifference, followed by rejection (26.8%), which together accounted for 85.0% of the total, and acceptance (15.0%). Overall, the study found that this affects the willingness to seek information and medical attention. A statistically significant relationship was found between the level of knowledge and attitudes, with a τ_b value of 0.140 and p = 0.028. The majority of students (58.2%) presented a low level of knowledge, accompanied mostly by attitudes of indifference (58.2%). This suggests that greater knowledge tends to be associated with more positive attitudes. It was concluded that the low level of knowledge is linked to attitudes of indifference or rejection, which hinders preventive actions. Therefore, it is important to implement educational programs to improve knowledge and promote proactive attitudes, and contribute to reducing the transmission of genital herpes.

El objetivo fue determinar la relación entre el conocimiento y las actitudes sobre el herpes genital en estudiantes de 4º y 5º de secundaria del Colegio 60946 Mariscal Oscar R. Benavides Iquitos. Se realizó un estudio cuantitativo, corte transversal, correlacional y no experimental, una muestra de 213 estudiantes seleccionados mediante muestreo probabilístico. Se emplearon cuestionarios y escalas validados de conocimientos y actitudes. Los resultados revelaron mayor proporción de los estudiantes presentó un nivel de conocimiento moderado 33,8%. El 58,2% presentan un nivel de conocimiento bajo el 33,8% tienen un nivel medio de conocimiento. Solo el 8,0% alcanzan un nivel alto de conocimiento. En total, el 92% de los alumnos poseen un entendimiento que varía de bajo a medio sobre el herpes genital. Respecto a las actitudes, se distribuyeron principalmente en indiferencia 58,2%, seguidas de rechazo 26,8% que llegaron al 85.0%. y en menor medida aceptación 15,0%. En total, lo que hay cual afecta la disposición a buscar información y atención médica. Se encontró una relación estadísticamente significativa entre el nivel de conocimiento y las actitudes con un valor τ_b=0,140, p=0,028 (p=0.028). La mayoría de los estudiantes presentaron un nivel bajo de conocimiento 58,2%, acompañados en su mayoría de actitudes de indiferencia 58,2%. Lo que sugiere que un mayor conocimiento tiende a asociarse con actitudes más positivas. Se concluyó que el bajo nivel de conocimiento se vincula a actitudes de indiferencia o rechazo, lo que obstaculiza acciones preventivas. Por tanto, es importante implementar programas educativos para mejorar el conocimiento y promover actitudes proactivas, y contribuir a la reducción de la transmisión del herpes genital.
