Abstract

The research was conducted using an explanatory, field-based, cross-sectional, and bivariate design. The sample consisted of 56 students, representing the total population enrolled during the study period. Data were collected using instruments previously validated through expert judgment, ensuring methodological rigor and content relevance. The findings revealed that philosophical critical thinking exerted a significant and direct influence on autonomy and decision-making, accounting for 62.0% of the variance in these competencies (R² = 0.620). Among the dimensions analyzed, self-correction and self-evaluation emerged as the strongest predictor of students’ autonomous development (B = 1.625), demonstrating that metacognitive skills play a decisive role in strengthening students’ capacity to make decisions with greater confidence, reflection, and responsibility.
