Conocimiento y actitud hacia la leptospirosis en trabajadores del camal municipal del distrito de Punchana en Iquitos 2025

Abstract

The objective of the study was to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitude toward leptospirosis among workers at the Municipal Slaughterhouse of the Punchana district, Iquitos, 2025. A quantitative approach with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, correlational design was used. Data were collected through interviews using two reliable and validated instruments: a leptospirosis knowledge questionnaire (validity 88.5%, reliability 82.53%) and a Likert-type scale to assess attitudes toward the disease (validity 92.3%, reliability 82.34%). The results show that most workers have a moderate level of knowledge about the disease (55.6%), while good and poor knowledge levels are similarly distributed (22.2% each). Regarding attitude, negative attitudes predominated (63.9%), followed by indifference (19.4%) and positive attitudes (16.7%). When analyzing the relationship between both variables, the Fisher–Freeman–Halton test (p < 0.001) confirmed a significant association between knowledge and attitude. It is concluded that a higher level of knowledge about leptospirosis is associated with more favorable attitudes toward its prevention, highlighting the need to strengthen health education in this occupational group.

El objetivo del estudio fue determinar la relación que existe entre conocimiento y actitud hacia la Leptospirosis en trabajadores del Camal Municipal del distrito de Punchana, en Iquitos 2025. Se utilizó un enfoque cuantitativo con diseño no experimental, transversal y correlacional. La información se recopiló mediante entrevistas, empleando dos instrumentos confiables y validados: un cuestionario sobre conocimientos de leptospirosis (validez 88,5%, confiabilidad 82,53%) y una escala tipo Likert para evaluar actitudes hacia la enfermedad (validez 92,3%, confiabilidad 82,34%). Los resultados muestran que la mayoría de los trabajadores presenta un conocimiento regular sobre la enfermedad (55,6%), mientras que los niveles de conocimiento bueno y malo se distribuyen en proporciones similares (22,2%). Respecto a la actitud, predominan las actitudes negativas (63,9%), seguidas de la indiferencia (19,4%) y de las actitudes positivas (16,7%). Al relacionar ambas variables, se confirma mediante la prueba estadística de Fisher-Freeman-Halton (p < 0,001), una relación significativa entre conocimiento y actitud. Se concluye que un mayor nivel de conocimiento sobre la leptospirosis se relaciona con actitudes favorables hacia su prevención, por lo que existe la necesidad de fortalecer la educación sanitaria en este grupo ocupacional.
