Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explain the influence of socio-affective factors on English oral communication competencies among second-year secondary school students in public educational institutions in the Iquitos district during 2021. The methodological framework corresponds to explanatory research based on a cross sectional, multivariate field design. The sample consisted of 336 students, selected via stratified probability sampling with proportional allocation from a population of 2,697 students. Descriptive findings show that socio-affective factors reached a mean score of 36.682 out of 50, falling into the "high" category. English oral communication recorded a mean of 3.3 out of 20, placing students at the "pre-initial" level. Results by dimension were as follows: obtaining information (M = 4.644; pre-initial), inference and interpretation (M = 4.189; pre-initial), paraverbal and non-verbal resources (M = 9.890; initial), and strategic interaction (M = 7.690; initial). Inferential analysis using Spearman's Rho revealed an inverse, non-significant correlation between the two variables (r_s = -0.034; p = 0.269 > α = 0.05). Consequently, there is no evidence that socio-affective factors significantly influence English oral communication in the studied population; thus, the research hypothesis was rejected.
