Abstract

Water is an essential resource for life and human development; therefore, its proper management ensures its availability and quality. This research was conducted at the Anatico Lagoon-located in the Alianza Cristiana Native Community, Andoas District, Loreto Region-during 2025, where the local population relies on this source for their domestic activities. The objective was to study the microbiological and physicochemical characteristics of the water in order to compare them against the Environmental Quality Standards (ECA) established in Supreme Decree No. 004-2017-MINAM. A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing a descriptive-comparative level and a non experimental design. The physicochemical results indicated a pH ranging between 6.55 and 6.65, falling within the permissible limits. Total alkalinity varied between 18.75 and 46.25 mg CaCO₃/L, total hardness between 23 and 35 mg CaCO₃/L, and chlorides between 4.73 and 9.45 mg Cl⁻/L; these values indicate low mineralization and compliance with the standards for potable water production. Regarding microbiological parameters, total and fecal coliforms were observed in concentrations ranging from 49 to 280 MPN/100 mL, as were *Escherichia coli* ranging from 26 to 190 MPN/100 mL, thereby exceeding the limits established for direct consumption. It is concluded that the water exhibits adequate physicochemical conditions; however, it is not suitable for direct human consumption due to microbiological contamination, and therefore requires prior conventional treatment and disinfection.
