Abstract
The research study was to determine if there is an relation between the variable’s knowledge and complementary feeding practices in mothers of children aged 6 to 8 months. A quantitative, descriptive, observational, cross-sectional and prospective approach was used. The sample consisted of 70 mothers and the children treated in the Growth and Development clinic of the Health Institution. The instruments used were the questionnaire and observation sheet prepared by the researcher, validated by expert judgment, Delphi method and Cronbach test. The results were that the highest percentage of mothers, 36 (51.4%), presented a high level of knowledge about complementary feeding. The highest percentage, 37 (52.9%), had inadequate complementary feeding. When establishing the statistical relationship between knowledge and practice of complementary feeding in mothers participating in the study of children from 6 to 8 months, p < 0.028 was obtaining, approving the research hypothesis proposed.
