Abstract

The purpose of the research was to determine the relationship between self-concept and self-esteem in students of the seventh cycle of secondary school at the Teniente Manuel Clavero Muga Educational Institution in Punchana, Peru. The study was basic in type, with a quantitative approach and a non-experimental, cross-sectional, correlational design. The population consisted of 660 students, with a sample of 243 selected through stratified proportional probability sampling. For data collection, the GARLEY-CAG Self-Concept Questionnaire and the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory (School Form) were applied. The analysis revealed a very high positive correlation between overall self-concept and self-esteem (Spearman's Rho = 0.960). All dimensions of self-concept showed positive and very strong correlations with self-esteem: physical (Rho=0.946), family (Rho=0.936), personal (Rho=0.930), intellectual (Rho=0.921), social (Rho=0.884), and sense of control (Rho=0.878). It was concluded that a direct and strong-magnitude relationship exists between both variables, confirming the main hypothesis of the research.
