Abstract

Climate change and the increase in CO₂ represent an important environmental challenge. In the Peruvian Amazon, agroforestry systems (SAF) are a sustainable alternative that helps reducing pressure on forests, store carbon, support sustainable production, and improve farmers’ incomes; however, in Peru, studies on biomass and carbon in agroforestry systems are still limited, especially for native forest species. This study aimed to develop and evaluate allometric models to estimate the aboveground biomass of C. spruceanum (capirona) in an agroforestry system at the “El Dorado” Experimental Station – INIA, Loreto, Peru. 20 samples of 10-year established trees were evaluated. Biomass was determined using the destructive method, sectioning and weighing the trees into stems, branches, twigs, leaves, flowers, and fruits. The results showed a wide variability in total aboveground dry biomass, with values ranging from 16,9 kg to 360,3 kg, and an average of 106,3 kg per tree. Also, biomass showed a positive and significant correlation with the predictor variables, highlighting diameter at breast height (DBH). Finally, the model LnB = −3,7662 + 1,0358 LnDAP²Ht + ε best estimated total biomass, with an adjusted R², and RMSE of 0,948, and 19,62 kg, respectively.
