Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between nutritional status, body composition and eating habits among workers of the District Municipality of San Juan Bautista, Iquitos – 2025. A quantitative, descriptive-correlational approach with a non-experimental cross-sectional design was used. The sample was a census comprising 108 workers (55 men and 53 women), aged between 21 and 70 years. Nutritional status was assessed using body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference; body composition through the percentage of body fat determined by bioelectrical impedance analysis; and eating habits using a 117-item food frequency questionnaire validated for the Amazonian context. Statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 27.0, applying Pearson's Chi-square test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that 88.9% of the workers were overweight or obese according to BMI, 64.8% had high cardiometabolic risk based on waist circumference, 72.2% had excess body fat, and 52.8% had unhealthy eating habits. A statistically significant association was found between nutritional status and eating habits (BMI: χ² = 47.303; p < 0.001; waist circumference: χ² = 34.835; p < 0.001), between body composition and eating habits (χ² = 11.363; p < 0.001), and between nutritional status and body composition (BMI: χ² = 11.218; p = 0.047; waist circumference: χ² = 7.622; p = 0.022). It is concluded that there is a statistically significant relationship between the three variables studied in the municipal workers evaluated.
